A pool air pillow is an inflatable, vinyl accessory designed to float beneath your winter pool cover, primarily on above ground pools. Also called an ice compensator, an air pillow for an above ground pool provides a compressible space that helps accommodate the pressure created when pool water freezes and expands.
A pool cover air pillow also raises the center of the cover, which can help water drain toward the edges rather than collecting in one area. Buffalo Blizzard® Air Pillows include attachment points so you can secure the pillow and help keep it in position throughout the winter..
An air pillow is recommended for many above ground pools when closing for the winter. A pool air pillow floats beneath the winter cover and compresses as ice expands, helping relieve pressure on the pool walls and supporting the cover. It also creates a raised area that helps direct rainwater and debris toward the edges of the cover.
To use an air pillow, inflate it ¾ full, secure it near the center of the pool, and position the winter cover so it rests naturally over the pillow. An air pillow is not a substitute for proper winterization, cover maintenance, or removal of excess water when necessary.
