Rx Clear® Winter Closing Kits

As colder temperatures draw near, it's time to prepare to close your pool for the season. Properly winterizing your pool can offer significant benefits, saving you valuable time, frustration, and money when you reopen it in the spring. The prospect of avoiding the disappointment of an unkempt pool upon opening is undoubtedly enticing. Restoring the pool to a swim-ready state can be time-consuming, requiring weeks of treatment and the effort of sourcing the correct chemicals.

What chemicals do I need to close my pool?

To effectively close a pool you need an algaecide, shock, and a pH adjuster.

Adding an algaecide prevents algae growing during the winter, especially if your pool is likely to reach 60°F while it’s closed. With an algaecide, you can avoid the risk of opening your pool to green water in the spring.

Shocking your water will kill any contaminants lingering in your pool, including algae. You’ll want to wait at least 8 hours to let it circulate and dissolve.

A pH adjuster ensures that your shock works effectively throughout the winter, building towards an easier opening come spring.

What is included in a pool closing kit?

Our Rx Clear® Winter Closing Kits include Alkaplus pH Powder, All-in-One Shock X-Tra, and Winterizing powder.

Alkaplus pH Powder balances the pH in your water to prevent the corrosion of your pool and equipment while ensuring that your sanitizer remains effective. All-in-One Shock X-Tra is a fast-dissolving, oxidizing chlorine shock that helps to control algae and clear up cloudy water, while the Winterizing Powder prevents microbial growth over the winter months.

How do I choose the right pool closing kit size?

At PoolSupplies.com our pool closing kits are packaged according to pool size. If you’re in between kits, simply buy a kit a size up and use the instructions on each product to ensure proper dosing.

Do I need a different closing kit for an above ground or inground pool?

Our pool kits work on all pool styles and types to suit any of your pool needs. Our Winter Chlorine Closing Kits contain the shock that you need to control algae and clear up cloudy water. If you don’t want to use chlorine in your pool, our Non-Chlorine Winter Closing Kits contain non-chlorine winterizing powder and liquid that work in tandem to sanitize your water, control algae blooms, and prevent the buildup of minerals and scale. Our Salt Water Closing Kit is specially designed for saltwater pools, to protect and extend the lifespan of your salt cell.

Are pool winterizing chemicals necessary?

Yes, winterizing chemicals are absolutely necessary! They work together to prevent algae blooms, staining, scale buildup, and equipment damage during the winter season. By using a winter chemical kit, you can allow for a much easier opening come spring.

Do saltwater pools need a special closing kit?

Not necessarily, however we recommend the Rx Clear® Salt Water Pool Closing Kit if you have a salt water pool, in order to reduce scale buildup and extend the life of your salt cell.
