How Do I Backwash A Cartridge Filter?

Short answer - you don’t! Cartridge filters aren’t backwashed; you clean them by manually removing the cartridges and rinsing them with a standard garden hose - see more detailed instructions below!.

How Do I Clean A Pool Filter Cartridge?

  1. Turn off the pool pump and remove air from the system - slowly turn the air relief valve (usually on the top of the filter).
  2. Remove the cartridge from inside the filter tank and set it aside. Now is a good time to check for any damage - if you find any cracks or tears then it’s time for a new filter cartridge
  3. Use a spray nozzle on your garden hose to spray down the cartridge, making sure to get between the pleats. If you want to get a deeper clean, then you can use a Filter Cartridge Cleaner.
  4. About once a month, it’s worth cleaning your cartridge with a few sprays of a Filter Cleaner Spray.
  5. If it’s been a while since you’ve cleaned your cartridge and you want a deeper clean, you can soak the cartridge in the same cleaner spray overnight.
  6. Replace the cartridge in the filter, and secure it in place. Replace the filter top and close the clamps before turning the system back on.
